Jai Gurudev! Welcome to this introductory course on Hinduism.  Over the course of seven engaging and multi-faceted lessons, we will explore a variety of core themes. We will trace the origins of the term ‘Hinduism’, the culture’s modern history, and the consequent identity of Hindus. Together, we will unpack the seeming complexity of Hinduism’s multiple denominations, philosophies, scriptures, and deities, all the while contrasting and comparing certain key elements to the other major world religions. This will help us better illustrate the distinct and original vision of Hinduism. Famous, but often misunderstood, principles such as karma, reincarnation, liberation, caste, and more will be succinctly and precisely defined and then interlinked into one cohesive vision. In fact, by the end of this course, you will be able to summarise Hinduism’s mainstream worldview, including all of its essential tenets, in one cleverly constructed sentence! Together with every lesson, further reading materials, quizzes, and self-assessment exercises will be offered to you. You will also have the chance to submit all your questions in the accompanying comment section, where our teachers will be more than happy to support you. "Sila" means "stone" or "rock", "aradhana" typically means "worship" or "adoration" and "praveśa" usually means "entrance" or "entry". Hence this course is an introduction to the worship of silas. Enjoy your learning!
